** On Friday afternoon around 6:15 pm, French Broad Electric lost our transmission feed from Duke Energy, leaving almost 30,000 members without electricity. Duke Energy contacted us within a few minutes of the incident and reported an equipment failure in one of their transmission stations. Power was restored to about half of our Marshall District customers within 10 minutes when Duke switched the transmission feed in Asheville. The rest of our customers (Mars Hill Area and all of the Burnsville District) were out for around two hours. Repairs and additional switching were necessary before Duke Energy could re-energize the transmission lines. Although there was nothing French Broad Electric could have done to prevent this outage, we apologize for the inconvenience to our members and thank you for your patience while the power was out. **
